Entry from: Cacabelos, Spain Entry Title: "Walking the Way of Saint James" Entry: "Our route intersected the fabled Way of St James today - the Camino de Santiago. The Camino is one of those "trails" whose beginning is wherever you start - a spiderweb of pilgrimages vectoring on the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in the Spanish province of Galicia. There are favored routes, and over the centuries since the Middle Ages, those tried and true trails have shifted with the political winds, ever seeking the safest and most pilgrim-friendly avenues through the Spanish countryside. The most worn paths came down from the Pyrenees, since most of Europes population lay in this direction, but many came also across from the Mediterranean, and up through Portugal. The Santiago Cathedral was the objective because it purportedly houses the body of Saint James. James is a common name in the stories of the Bible, so which James is Santiago.There was James the brother of Jesus Christ, author of the New Testament book of James, first a skeptic who thought his brother mad, in the end a believer and pillar of the church - amazing with a chat with a post-resurrection older brother can do for ones faith.
