Benissa - History and Seashore. We are: www.inmocostablanca.com [ Calpe and Benissa villas for sale ]. Benissa is one of the oldest towns on the Costa Blanca located at 275 metres above sea level, with a historic old town and rolling hills leading to a 4km shoreline of rocky coves and the nice La Fustera sandy beach. The town of Benissa was founded by the Moors (Banu-Issa) as were the surrounding villages. After the Christian reconquest and expulsion of the Moors in 1609 the town was settled by people from the Pirenees, Catalonia and Aragon. The medieval town centre has been largely preserved with its ironwork balconies and heraldic shields. A notable building is the Palacio de los Torres-Orduña, now a cultural centre and library. Benissa has a strong Catholic tradition with a Franciscan seminary that has educated many Franciscan followers throughout Spain and a large NeoGothic church, the "Catedral de la Marina". Entry from: Benissa, Spain Entry Title: "Fiesta Week in Benissa" Entry: "Yes, it was Fiesta week in Benissa - the children are off school for the week - and there is some attraction on every day and night. Lots of fireworks going off at all times of the day and night - quite spectacular, on the first night especially. Gary took us to the markets in Benissa on Saturday morning (Christine took Tara to dancing at Javea). We were amazed at the beautiful decorations in each street - different ones in each street. So many of the streets have the front doors (of the residents) open directly on to the pavement, and so they were decorated as well. We bought some fresh fruit and vegetables as well as some things for presents. Home for lunch and then later we all went to a place called La Fuestra to a restaurant called Timon for drinks - wine for the adults soft drinks for the children! It was such a lovely afternoon/evening and the tables and chairs outside on a point reaching out in the water - so peaceful and relaxing. After a little while we went to a Chinese Restaurant not far away which was also very nice. This restaurant was the one where Christine & Gary & the children had their first meal the day they arrived in Spain. It was within walking distance of where they had their first home here. On the way ...

Entry from: Benissa, Spain Entry Title: "MAY - Springtime" Entry: "Finally gettting warmer!! This is a good thing considering we moved to Spain for the weather! May has been good, with the children swimming most days, after, what everybody tells me is, an unseasonably cold winter.... uh huh.. Im nearly tempted to pack away the thermals and winter jackets. Of course, it wasnt really that bad, its just that Im partial to the sun and warmth, and I have been warned that theres an abudance of both, still to come. A new experience for our family this month, was Chicken Pox, (known as its correct name of Varicella here). For some reason, none of the children had ever caught it, but as is the way, it was going around, and Greta managed to pick it up, with no other symptons, other than a couple of spots, (actually about 8 in total). A pathetic effort but none-the-less it ensured her some legal time off school. As you can imagine, thinking thats all there is to it, the other kids are desperate for their turn. Trent had a bout a couple of weeks later, but thats it so far. Apart from that, there was the normal everyday stuff that keeps us busy: *Trents first football game (see photos) - a defining moment in the Foreman rugby household *Childrens school trips, which although very expensive here are ...

Entry from: Benissa, Spain Entry Title: "Back to Family happenings!" Entry: "Since getting back to Christine & Garys from England it has been a very busy time with end of year (school) break-ups as well as birthdays - and on top of all that - The Metro Gastro Bar finally opening. So it has been all on.............. Firstly the day after we arrived back Harrison and Brad both performed at their schools end of year dance show with the theme being "International". So the performances were based around the different continents, Asia, Oceania, Europe, Americas, Africa. It was good to see the boys perform for their school. Evidently not every class gets to perform because Greta and Trent were not involved. The next day we first went to friends of Christine & Gary, Arnold & Charlene, for Arnolds 48th birthday party. They are Dutch friends and as it was the day that the Netherlands played one of their soccer games for the World Cup, so all the decorations around were in orange, and some of them even dressing in their orange garb. It was a lovely day overlooking the valley and enjoying the paella. The paella is catered for... ie: elderly spanish local and his mate, buy all the ingredients and cook it for a few hours and then serve it up. It goes down really well, and even the children enjoy it. Later we ...

Here it is! (Take 393 :-) The third movement, Allegro Solemne, from La Catedral by Barrios played by me, Samantha Muir. La Catedral was written in 1914 after Barrios visited the Cathedral of San Jose in Montevideo, Uraguay. One day Barrios was passing by the church when he heard the music of JS Bach being played on the great organ. He went inside to listen to the music. The 2nd movement, Andante Religioso, reflects this experience. After listening to the music he returned to the busy, bustling street full of light and movement... This is captured in the 3rd movement, Allegro Solemne. The work was originally just 2 movements but in 1938 Barrios wrote the beautiful Preludio Saudade for his wife Gloria and decided to add it to La Catedral as a 1st movement. The movement adds a prayer-like stillness to the work. La Catedral is my favourite guitar work. I think of it as beauty and the beast - the 1st and 2nd movements are "beauty" and the 3rd movement is a real beast to play! Phew! :-)
