Rudolf Nureyev, el rey de la danza Bailarín y coreógrafo ruso de ballet, posiblemente el más virtuoso y carismático de su generación. El próximo día 17 de marzo de este año 2009, Nureyev habría cumplido 71 años, pero el destino y el Sida provocaron su fallecimiento el 6 de enero de 1993, el día de Reyes, a los 54 años. Nació en un tren, cerca de Irkutsk, bailó como profesional desde los 15 años y estudió en la Escuela Coreográfica de Leningrado desde 1955 hasta 1958, año en que se convirtió en primer bailarín delBallet del Teatro Kírov de San Petersburgo. Se exilia de su país natal la ex Unión Soviética, en 1961, con ocasión de una gira por París con el Kírov; Nureyev logra escapar de la seguridad soviética en el aeropuerto de París y deserta. Conoce en Paris a la gran bailarina británica Margot Fonteyn, con la que formaría una de las parejas de danza más famosa y con más éxito de todos los tiempos; siendo en 1962 cuando se asocia al Royal Ballet de Gran Bretaña. También bailó con el American Ballet Theatre, la compañía de Martha Graham y otras formaciones. Reconstruyó y refundió la coreografía de El lago de los cisnes (1964), Don Quijote (1973) y otros ballets del coreógrafo del siglo XIX Marius Petipa, y su vida fue el argumento de la película "I am a dancer" (1972). Su autobiografía, "Nureyev", se publicó en 1962. Se hizo ciudadano austriaco en 1982, y desde 1983 hasta 1989 fue director artístico del Ballet de la Ópera de París.
