The song is ???????? ?? ????????? - Ekaenkai to tsabasin (Tsabasin Burnt down) from the Guardians of Hellenism VOL.4, Pontos & Cappadocia. It carries well the power of loss, and the love of land felt by Pontians. Pontos (??????), the land below the Black Sea that was colonized by Ancient Greeks, had a rich Ancient and Christian history, now suddenly in danger of being forgotten after the Turks expelled the Pontians. The Empire of Trebizond was the last Christian land in Anatolia to resist the Turks. The lyrics for the song Tsabasin burnt down: Xenophon Akoglous, in his Folklore of Kotyora, informs us that the song was written in 1913 on the event of the great fire which destroyed Tsabasi, a lovely resort built at an altitude of 2000 meters, 45 km from Kotyora. Singer: Sophia Sinopoulou Tsabasin burnt down, not even bare walls left, the young men of Ordou rushed to save it. A great fire in Tsabasin, not a house left standing. Young and old, poor and rich, all sat weeping. The slopes were smoking, the springs ran dry, Ashes heaped high, great houses destroyed. The lambs and sheep, the glens, the slopes, The springs and wells, all are to be pitied. The poor birds are weeping, the lovely fir trees are weeping. Tsabasin burnt down, nothings left standing, my bird, Hills and valleyes will no more grow grass. Its burnt and gone, the country-side of Ordou, And nothings left there save only ashes.

The song is MOIPO?OÏ ?EPPA (Miroloï Serra) from Guardians of Hellenism (Vol. 4 Pontos, Cappadocia). Anatolia (A??????), which means East in Greek, which is now modern Turkey, was the heartland of Byzantium before the Ottoman invasion. There are various ethnic influences in its culture. Of course, many parts of Anatolia also have remnants of the glorious Ancient Greek civilization. Featured in the video are costumes from: Paphlagonia (??????????): Amastris (A???????), Germanopolis (????????????), Kastro Komnenou & Heracleia Pontica (???????? ???????). Pontos (??????): Sinope (??????), Samsounta, Cotyora, Kerasounta (??????????), Eudokia (???????), Rizaion (???????), Trapezounta (???????????) and Colchis (??????). Translation of the song: What roads I walked, what bridges I crossed! And now Ive grown old, left by the wayside. Talls hills and green, hidden in the clouds, Open a grave and put me in. About the song: The laments which were not funerial were usually sung by men in Pontos and expressed the troubles of life. Laments like the one presented here, as Mr Amarantides was told by his father, were also sung by old men who could no longer follow the young ones to war. That is why it is usually followed by the Serra-Dance, or Pontian Pyrrihios, which is identified as the war-dance of ancient warriors. Singer and lyre player: Georgos Amarantides.

This is a short clip of the Imera Village in the Region of Kromni, just south of Trabzon "Black Sea" coast (Karadeniz). We were lucky to have locals join us in dance. Its Gianni Nikolaidis from Komotini on Lyra and Kosta Psatha on Ndaouly we also had 2 priests (one was Father Pavlos of Sumela Greece and the other from Lamia) and a Monk "Makarios" from Mt.Olympus.I noticed their style is different from the Trabzon Style of Horon. I got some personal lessons in "Tikia Horon" and " Sarigouz - Blond girl" dance. The local village people were very good to us. Many liked the Greeks b/c in the 1922 exchange the Greeks of Imera asked the Turks of the opposit village to move into their homes and take care of their things untill they returned (which many belived they would ...... but never did). Kromni and the village Imera are the Homes of the Legend "Filona Ktenidi" and the "Tanimanidis" Family and many many more (actually known for producing many scholars). NOTE: none of the locals of Kromni Spoke Rum (Pontiaka) but are TOP dancers!!! as you can see!!
