Based on a 1892 story by Maxim Gorki, "Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven" (????? ?????? ? ????) won the "Big Golden Shell" at the 1976 San Sebastian festival. The film was so successful, that it went around the globe, being sold in 120 countries. Its a romanticized version of the life of the nomad Gypsies at the end of 19th century, in the North East border area of the Austrian Empire. I post here five scenes about the love story between Rada, a beautiful Gypsy Girl and Luiku Zobar, a fearless horse thief. They have wonderful music, exotic dance, beautiful imagery and a lot of raw passion.

A Goddess, the summit of beauty and love. Rada was her name (Svetlana Toma)... The video features Alyona Buzylyova as little Gypsy girl, singing Nane Tsoha. IMHO, one of the most talented child artists ever. Later she became a Russian Gypsy singer. Freedom and crime, love and death... All of these things are in the impressive drama made in 1976 after Maksim Gorky stories. The action takes place in a region near the border of the Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empires, right where Dracula and Sacher-Masoch came from. The film tells a story of a beautiful Gypsy Rada, who appears to have magic powers, a bold horse-stealer Loyko Zobar and their fatal love. There is transgression, tantra, pagan cults, dionysism, dark magic. This story can be named as well a Russian Carmen. Brilliant performance of Emil Lotjanu / Loteanu (director), Eugene Doga (music), Serguey Vronsky (photography), Svetlana Toma (awarded as the best Soviet actress of the year for the part of Rada), Grigore Grigoriu(Zobar), Borislav Brondukov (Buca) and others. Great art of a great civilization. Enjoy it and fuck Hollywood shit.
