Earlier this year I joined my step-father and his lifelong friend Rob for a week walking the Via de La Plata in Spain, they were walking the entire 1000 km from Seville to Santiago de Compostela whereas we only joined them for a mere 116 km between Salamanca and Riego del Camino. It was a great adventure and I am determined to match their feat some day. I will be posting another slideshow with their pictures some time soon.

Joost and Rob walk de 1000KM Via de la Plata from Seville to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This is a picture slideshow of the achievement. Myself and my brother in law Brian walked with them for 116KM from Salamanca to Riego del Camino. The Vía de La Plata (Silver Way) or Ruta de la Plata (Silver Route) is an old commercial and pilgrimage path that crosses the west of Spain from north to south, connecting Mérida to Astorga, and in extension Seville with the Bay of Biscay, at Gijón. According to folk etymology, although the term Vía de la Plata apparently comes from "silver", it is in fact related to the Arabic, balata, which means "paved",as it was as so many other Hispano-Roman roads that were also paved.
