Entry from: sEstanyol de Migjorn, Spain Entry Title: "Rock Pile" Entry: "My destination today isnt very photogenic, looking pretty much like a rock pile. Its the oldest prehistoric site on the island - Capocorb Vell, the ruins of a village that archeologists believe existed in about 1000 BC. Thats about the time that David was King in Israel. Although they believe that the village was bigger than whats been uncovered there are five talayots (three round and 2 square) and 28 stone residences. The talayots are towers made of stone and can be either round or square but nobody knows for sure what their functions were. Some appeared to be watchtowers, others were used for burials, they could have been religious, or they could have had military functions. They also think they might have been status symbols for important families. Or the answer could be D) all of the above. The entire village was surrounded by a stone wall. The individual houses have a separate area in the front of the house that archeologists believe may have been used to keep a few animals. The houses are all together like apartment buildings, so the south wall of one is the north wall of the next. Doorways are really short. You have to bend way over to get through.
