Although, not for the town itself, but for its neighboring ghost town, Calico, which is a California Historical Landmark (#782). It was hotter than hades, but I talked the family into stopping anyway (and I probably have more issues with the heat than any of them). They grumbled, but complied. You pay as you go through the little drive-by hut, and it cost us $18 to get in. We could take Pasha in also as long as she was on a leash. We did see another dog or two there also. But for future reference, I wouldnt advise it in that kind of heat. We parked and entered the outdoor oven to explore the little mining town which was preserved by none other than the Knott family, known for Knotts Berry Farm. So it did kind of have that theme park feel to it, and they do nickel and dime you there. But, hey, it was something to do. They used to mine silver there, and the 20-mule Borax team was a regular in town mining borate. To learn more you can go to the website: www.calicotown.com .
