Entry from: Managua, Nicaragua Entry Title: "Nicaragua - Managua and Pochomil" Entry: "¡Hola! Charlotte here: The trip to Managua from Honduras had been long (8hours) and hot (the bus driver refused to put on the aircon and the windows didn´t open) and smelly (a kid threw up in the aisle and on a few passengers) - not a great combination! Anyhow, we decided that we needed a rest day with no travelling, and although the capital of Nicaragua, Managua, isn´t internationally known for it´s charm or beauty we decided to stay for a day. Managua itself is super congested, smoggy, hot as an oven and dangerous so we decided that the best way to spend the day there would be to take taxis everywhere, and go check out a few museums and main sights (the lack of which means that this is easily done in a few hours!). First stop of the day was Loma de Tiscapa, a hill in the centre of town which offers great views over Lake Managua to one side, and a beatiful emerald green volcano crater lagoon to the other. The hill is also home to the ruins of the Somoza family´s presidential palaca. I can´t remember the exact details but the Somoza family was a bit of a political dynasty in Nicaragua (read: dictatorship!), and the country has had three presidents from the Somoza family (father and two sons) and even when a Somoza ...

Saludó a algunas personas.

November 26, 1996 www.amazon.com Watch the full program: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Pastora became disenchanted with the turn of the revolution when most of the Sandinista leaders moved to the luxury residences of Managua; he felt the leadership was doing too little to benefit the campesinos and aboriginal tribes he represented, and was overly concerned with propagating ideological consistency in a poorly concealed bid to consolidate Ortegas political power. Consequently, Pastora turned against the Sandinista regime to fight against it. He once again began military operations in southern Nicaragua, loosely federated with northern forces which, composed of Miskito Indians, other displaced peoples and former National Guard members, were collectively referred to as the Contras. From a military standpoint, Pastoras efforts contributed much less than did forces in the north. Pastora also received less support from the US government; whether his performance was a result or cause of this disparity is subject to debate. Military achievements aside, his reputation as a Nicaraguan patriot meant that his opposition to the Sandinistas was valid, however it was a small contribution in the anti-Sandinista opposition forces. In 1984, Pastora was apparently the intended target of the La Penca bombing, which killed four people at a press conference he was holding. He was seriously wounded. Pastora had three failed marriages. Lamenting about the interpersonal strains that occur in the ...
