Moving onto Japan where Latino laborers are feeling the pinch of the global economic slowdown. Now theyre faced with a choice of staying in Japan, or receiving some money from the Japanese government to return to Latin America. In Toyota City, home to the worlds largest automaker, nearly 80 percent of local Latino laborers have lost their jobs at auto parts factories. Some of them are living in destitution and depend on food aid to feed themselves and their families. In response, the Japanese government suggests they go back to live in Latin America. The workers are being offered 300000 yen (about $3000 US dollars) and an additional 200000 yen ($2000 US dollars) for a dependent, to compensate for their travel and moving expenses.Accepting the offer means having their work visas revoked. [Gaby Semorile, Peruvian Worker]: "I believe the economic situation will get better eventually, sooner or later. And thats when they are going to need manual labor again. If they dump us and other foreigners who have supported Japans manufacturing sector, where are they going to get those laborers from? Practically, they are trying to dump us from Japan."
